Seven Ways To Be Creative When You Don’t Feel Inspired
Let’s dive straight in
Are you feeling uninspired? Struggling to get your creative juices flowing? You’re not alone. We all feel like this at times, and it is a completely natural part of life. No matter whether you’re a writer, a painter, or any kind of creator, here are seven of our top tips to help you when you’re feeling uninspired:
1. Change location
One of the best and simplest ways to get your creative juices flowing is to change your location. Sitting at the same desk every day can kill your creativity, so don’t be afraid to step out and try different spaces every now and then.
2. Get outdoors
Sometimes, one of the most effective ways to find inspiration is to stop working and go outside for a short walk. Research has shown that walking can help boost creativity by up to 60%!
3. Listen to others
If you are lacking inspiration, then try reading a book, listening to a podcast, or chatting with other creators. Hearing their stories can help to inspire your own creativity and find ways to overcome those moments where you are feeling uninspired.
Don’t feel you should only choose creators who work in the same industry or medium as you. Listening to those outside of your sector can help you to see things from a different perspective.
4. Sleep on it
Sometimes there is no better way to overcome a lack of inspiration than stepping away from it for the day. Having time away from work is essential and helps our brain to switch off and relax, so when you’re finding it tough to be creative, don’t be afraid to step away and try again tomorrow.
5. Keep an ideas journal
Inspiration can strike at any time, and having a notebook with you will let you write them down before you forget them. This might not seem like much, but that journal could become a valuable asset at those times when you’re lacking inspiration or are struggling with creative ideas.
6. Do your chores
Been putting your chores off? If you’re finding it tough to be inspired, then leaving your workspace and doing some mundane tasks such as cleaning your home or washing the dishes can help your brain to reset. When you do not have to think about a particular task, you will be able to return to your desk refreshed and ready to start again.
7. Talk to people
Finally, another great way to find inspiration when you are struggling is to talk with others. No matter whether it’s friends, family, or even complete strangers, engaging with others will not only help you forget about the task at hand, but it could also spark some ideas.
